Gluten Free at The Townhouse, Bristol

As far as first world problems go, having too many restaurants to choose from must rank quite highly. But that’s the issue The Hub and I faced for our wedding anniversary recently. We are truly spoiled in Bristol for good places to eat. But when you are counting the pennies, choosing a restaurant becomes much more difficult. You don’t want to leave somewhere feeling ‘worse off’. We’ve all been faced with a £120 bill after a bad meal – a meal that wasn’t as enjoyable as a bag of chips for a 1/10 of the price or a meal that left you hungry and searching for a takeaway on the way home.
You do whatever you can to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

The Allergy and Free From Show 2013

I attended the Allergy and Free From Show for the first time on Saturday. The chat on Twitter after last year’s show convinced me that I’d really missed out, so in the name of research I headed to my least favourite place, London.
I’ve attended many ‘exhibitions’ in the past but they were mostly for the trade so I wasn’t prepared for what came with a public show – a lot of people clearly there for the free samples and a quick dash around with a pram as a battering ram. The main difference from a trade show however, is the ability to buy the goods on offer. I saw and took advantage of some great deals. If I wasn’t planning to spend the afternoon traipsing through London, I would have stocked up. The beer deals were especially enticing but I only bought two bottles, one lemon beer for myself and one lager for The Hub.
I was a lot like a kid in a toy shop for the next couple of hours, so great to see brands I love showing off their full range and proudly handing out samples. Amazing how…

RECIPE Roasted Veg Risotto and Parmesan Crisps

Here is a very simple vegetarian supper that will delight and inspire your guests (possibly. Trick - don’t mention how easy it was.)
Parmesan Crisps
Put the grill on at around 220c. Finely grate around 300g parmesan cheese. Carefully sprinkle the cheese onto a greased baking sheet into oval shapes. Try to keep as neat as possible and try to get the layer about 1/2cm thick. Too thin and they will burn, too thick and they won’t crisp up. Place under the grill and grill for a couple of minutes, until the cheese has melted. Remove and leave to cool completely. Once cooled, carefully use a flat knife to slide off the baking sheet and onto some kitchen roll. (It is important not to make these at the end when the oven is hot, as they will go too gooey.)
Risotto
Start your risotto. I follow the instructions on the box (but substitute the butter with Vitalite) and then add more wine and parmesan than they say. Chunk up 2 courgettes and one butternut squash. Place on a baking tray and splash w…

BFree Gluten Free Multigrain Wraps

Oh, baby.
I'm hungry again looking at these photos.
It's been a long time since I've had a wrap so I'd forgotten how useful they are and how oddly comforting putting your food into a little doughy pocket can be :D
We used our wraps from BFree to make warm wraps with chilli con carne, cheese, re-fried beans and salad.
I even had some leftover (there is a decent amount in a bag! Hold the front page!) and I made delicious cold chicken, avocado and chipotle wraps for lunch.
Next time I'll be making cannelloni! Exciting possibilities :)
The wraps are currently only available in Ireland but they will be available in Asda in the UK from July.
