Well, what can I say? Me and my husband enjoyed a completely gluten free lunch with beer at Bruschetta in Kingston Upon Thames and I'm sad every day that I don't live closer.
In fact, it was a bit of a mission to get there and find parking. But once inside, I felt as though I was in a little restaurant in Italy. The decor is a little quirky and haphazard, and the chef pops out every now and then to speak Italian to one of the customers, but the waitress was lovely and we felt really relaxed and happy to be there. I could see myself popping in for lunch every day.
The set lunch menu items were £5 each and I went for a pepperoni pizza, calamari and gnocchi in a rich tomato sauce. I had a panna cotta for dessert (though I was very stuffed at this point!) All the items I chose were egg free as well as gluten free (I emailed to check the egg part beforehand.)
I enjoyed every mouthful of my food. The pizza was stone baked and crunchy around the edges, the calamari was fresh and light, salty and crunchy, the gnocchi was pillowy and came in a beautiful fresh tomato sauce and the panna cotta with berries was refreshing and soft as air.
I could have been lulled into a fantasy world caused by the ease of ordering and the choice on offer, but I ran it past my husband and he was a happy bunny too.
In the second picture you will see that they sell dried pasta (gluten free and egg free) and a range of sauces and oils and on the counter they had little gluten free cakes.
The bill was painless, and satiated describes our journey home!
Just go - and support the UK's first gluten free restaurant! (If you are reading this Bruschetta - please open in Bristol!)
