The Bird In Hand is a recently refurbished pub serving up grade A grub at reasonable prices in cosy and relaxed surroundings. The food is local, seasonal and sometimes foraged and attention has gone into insuring that the meals are tasty, classic and elegant.

I ate there with a few fellow food bloggers and the meal was very kindly given to us free of charge. However my review will be utterly honest!

One of the bloggers present Wuthering Bites is also gluten free and it's fab to have a fellow awkward eater at the table. We chose carefully from the menu and double checked our choices with the waiter. The waiter then double checked some of our choices with the chef and we were assured that they were well used to catering for awkward eaters like us. At the end, our waiter mentioned that they sometimes bake gluten free bread if they know gluten free diners are coming in. Slight annoyance at this, as we were pretty sure it had been mentioned at the time of booking but...oh well. Maybe next time.

My only other grumble was the portion sizes, which I felt were on the small side. I was happy after 3 courses, but if I'd had one or two I would have gone home slightly hungry.

OK, there's a third grumble and that's the desserts. I chose ice-cream and asked them to serve the biscotti that was meant to come with it separately, which they did, but it was pretty plain without it. And there were no other GF choices.
The rest of the food was well cooked and prepared, with perfectly balanced flavours using top quality ingredients.
The pub was well stocked with booze and the pub garden was spacious and ideal for al fresco dining. The thought of sitting in the garden with a glass of wine and more of the pork belly is enough to draw me back.
